“Being Canadian” is a comical documentary, which follows the quest of Robert Cohen.
He is a Canadian native who left his hometown and moved to America to pursue his career as a television comedy writer. While in the U.S. he began to notice how people who weren’t from Canada had very little knowledge about his hometown. Frustrated with the ignorance and insults, Cohen decided to take matters into his own hands. He travels back to his homeland and begins a quest by driving across Canada from East to West, to document how great his country really is.
While on this road, the main question he is searching for an answer to is, “What does it actually mean to be Canadian?” Throughout this documentary there are interviews featuring famous Canadians such as Cobie Smulders, Seth Rogen, Ben Stiller, Mike Myers and many more. Rob sets a deadline of midnight on Canada Day, which is held in Vancouver every year. This film generated chuckles from the audience by shining light on Canada in a comedic sense.
We had the opportunity to attend the New York premiere at The Crosby Street Hotel. Robert Cohen (writer/director) was in attendance and participated in a Q&A.
