‘Shining Vale’ celebrated its LA premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Monday, February 28 complete with a red carpet event, screening of the show, and after party.
The new horror comedy series from STARZ follows the dysfunctional Phelps family as they move from the big city to a small Connecticut town, desperate for a fresh start following an affair that threatened to unravel their family.
Cox’s character Pat, a writer struggling to find inspiration for her second novel following the success of her first women’s empowerment book, thought that moving away from the city after her affair with the handyman would be best. However, their new family home quickly proves that it has plenty of dark secrets of its own. The problem — Pat is the only one in her family who feels the darkness. It turns out that the symptoms of being possessed and being depressed are exactly the same.
Greg Kinnear plays Terry Phelps, Pat’s optimistic and patient husband whose self-control and positive attitude will be tested like never before. Mira Sorvino plays Rosemary, Pat’s alter ego, her split personality, her muse, or a demon — Pat is not quite sure — all she knows is that she is the only person who can see Rosemary.
Merrin Dungey plays Kam, Pat’s friend and book editor, with Gus Birney and Dylan Gage rounding out the cast as Pat and Terry’s children, Gaynor and Jake. Alysia Reiner and Derek Luh also appear in recurring roles. Shining Vale is executive produced by Jeff Astrof, who also serves as showrunner.
The Knockturnal got the chance to speak with Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear, Mira Sorvino, Merrin Dungey, Gus Birney, Dylan Gage, Alysia Reiner, Derek Luh, and Jeff Astrof at the premiere.
The premiere also became a small Friends reunion, with Lisa Kudrow also in attendance.
No Vacancy hosted the spookily beautiful and thematic after party. Details included Chinese food appetizers inspired by the show, an axe-themed photo booth, moving boxes from the Phelps family, and more. The entire cast was at the after party, along with STARZ personnel, crew, and actor and comedian Jack McBrayer.
New episodes of Shining Vale premiere Sundays on STARZ.
