Between April 2-5, Complex celebrated the upcoming release of Lionsgate’s Michael, by hosting a pop-up exhibition event displaying select costumes and props from the upcoming biopic.The latest Michael Jackson biopic, details the late megastar’s rise from early childhood stardom to his massive success with albums Thriller and Bad.
Jaafar Jackson, who is Michael Jackson’s nephew, portrays him in the film. While there was a very long line to get in, Jaafar Jackson made a very brief appearance at the pop-up’s pre-opening event on April 2. While there he did a interview with Complex.
There were three costumes worn by Jaafar Jackson in the movie on display. Also a guitar and one of Jackson’s signature glitter gloves was displayed at the popup too. There was also a featured art piece by Dimithry Victor who created a custom mixed media piece that drew inspiration from some of MJ’s biggest hits, including Billie Jean, Beat It, Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough and Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’. During the pre-event there was an array of MJ themed cocktails available and light small selection of hors d’ouvres. A deejay played Michael Jackson’s hits as well. Select lucky attendees received t-shirts inspired by the movie from a limited supply.
Michael opens in theaters on April 24.
