Absinthe and sleight of hand make for incredible weekend plans

There is never a shortage of things to do in New York City.  However, a true New Yorker is someone who knows all the hidden secrets that the city has to offer.  And one of the most extravagant and seductive hidden secrets is back.  Company XIV, one the most talented burlesque troupe’s in NYC, is back with the premiere of their brand new show, Cocktail Magique.  If you have ever been to a Company XIV show, you know that alongside some of the most amazing dance and circus performances, you are also treated to some of the most innovative and delicious drinks found in that part of Brooklyn.  And with that in mind, Company XIV decided to give fans what they wanted and created a show centered around the marvel of their cocktails.

Cocktail Magique, as the name implies, is a magic show that focuses on some of the best spirits and cocktails you can find.  Austin McCormick and Company XIV have transformed a 62-seat venue into an immersive and ethereal sets we have ever seen.  As soon as you walk in, you are teleported to what feels like a 1920s set, almost as if it was inspired by a prohibition speakeasy venue.  As guests settle in, the cast members are reading to prepare some of their delicious cocktails to indulge in prior to the show.  And once the dust settles, our hosts of the evening appear.  Both Sam Urdang and Amy Jo Jackson appear on stage and were our magic ringleaders for the show.  This duo had amazing chemistry, adding bits of comedy and drama to each act while still maintaining character and performing some of the most incredible magic illusions we have ever seen.

And with each new act, we are introduced to a new character and cast member who performs a magic trick that accentuates their specific talent.  If you are familiar with Company XIV, you know that every cast member is trained in some discipline of performing arts be it from classical dancing, to belly dancing, to aerial acrobatics.  And all of these talents were put on display during this show.  Cocktail Magique has everything from watching a performer pour a shot while belly dancing all the way to watching a someone perform aerial acrobatics just a few feet away from you.

And outside of just the magic and performance, we have to mention the cocktails being showcased during the performance.  Cocktail Magique does an incredible job of weaving the magic performances with the cocktail at hand.  There was an incredible level of immersiveness, whether it be cocktails falling from the sky to a mixed drink appearing in a locked box in front of us.  Each act gave a delicious and boozy drink that pleased everyone.  And to touch upon the cocktails, every cocktail had a great depth of flavor while having some of the most unique notes and ingredients we have tried.  If you are a fan of absinthe, Company XIV’s cocktails are perfect for you.

And for those that like to get the VIP treatment, be sure to check out the Fortune Teller Upgrade.  This comes with an extra cocktail (this cocktail was one of our favorites), as well as a private Tarot Card reading and a take home Salvador Dali tarot card set as a keepsake.

Cocktail Magique was by far one of the best experiences we have had in 2022.  This intimate and immersive performance sparked so much joy for each and every guest.  There is comedy, acting, dancing, and so much more that it seems foolish to not check this show out.  Cocktail Magique is a must see performance for anyone with an appreciation an love for the arts, magic, or fun in general.
