COVID can’t stop burlesque!
With it being month 8 into quarantine, it is hard to really find something new and exciting to indulge in, especially if you’re like me and have already watched pretty much everything Netflix has to offer. Luckily our favorite burlesque troupe, Company XIV, has found an answer to the question, “How can I enjoy burlesque safely and from the comfort of my home?” Company XIV has just launched their streaming entertainment line where they bring their holiday classic, Nutcracker Rouge, right to your laptop or living room TV. Directed and choreographed by Austin McCormick, this special edition showcases 8 distinct performances which are released all throughout the year up until New Year’s Eve. If you have ever been to a Company XIV performance, you will know that each show is split up into acts where a performer will come on stage and highlight their unique skill from intricate pole dancing to operatic singing. Each episode will feature that act in an intimate and HD video where you can immerse yourself in this incredible talent as if you were sitting front row at their show in Bushwick.
On top of the performances, Company XIV also gives an in-depth step by step instruction video on how to make some of their signature cocktails. Before each episode, viewers can watch each bartender make a distinct drink which is a perfect accompaniment to the act coming up. Viewers can select a certain package which gives them access to the cocktails and acts and depending on how extravagant you want to get, additional goodies can be selected with the package. The first of these acts, featuring resident opera-singing aerialist, Marcy “Operagaga” Richardson, premiered on Thanksgiving Day (November 26). Marcy is famously known for her operatic singing all while performing aerial acrobatics and this first act gives an up close and personal view of the performance that everyone loves. Subsequent acts featuring circus, singing and sultry burlesque will be released weekly through New Year’s Eve (December 31). Following each premiere subscribers enjoy unlimited on-demand streaming through January 31, 2021.
NUTCRACKER ROUGE AT HOME
