“A Thousand Junkies” follows three addicts whose 9 – 5 workday consists of scouring Los Angeles for their next fix. But when their luck runs out, the trio find themselves at a crossroad between morality and desperation in this unorthodox “buddy and black comedy.“This is screenwriter Tommy Swerdlow’s first film in a directorial position. Swerdlow recalls his past with heroin addiction alongside both co-writer and star of the film, TJ Bowen, and star Blake Heron, who recently passed away and also grappled with addiction himself. The three met in AA meetings, where the idea for the film sparked.
“I realized that the least interesting thing about drug addiction was the drugs, and what was far more interesting and universal was the desire for them,” said Swerdlow.
“A Thousand Junkies” is a drug movie with no actual drugs, but rather about the interesting relationships that develop between addicts in their quest for a fix. Check out an exclusive clip from the film:
