Whisky sipping of Johnnie Walker is as important as cookies for Santa when it comes to Burns Night.

Celebrating Robert Burns, the national poet of Scotland, in style came in the form of one of the most entertaining events of January. Hosted by Burns Distilled on the 23rd of the month, world-renowned Burns performer and Braveheart actor Andrew Weir was accompanied by some of Broadway’s finest musicians and celebrity guest appearances virtually by the likes of Alan Cumming and Brian Cox.

Burns Distilled is a heart-warming and fast-paced telling of the Scottish bard’s story; punctuated with great whisky and fueled by music that will nurture the soul.

The splendid supper this year was rooted in history and stirred perfectly with contemporary twists. Live music from some of Broadway’s finest musicians along with heart-warming storytelling and performances added to the magic of the night along with incredible cocktails and Scotch whiskey tastings.

The traditional Scottish dinner in celebration of Robert Burns’ 266th birthday hosted at Brass Monkey showcased entrees of Scottish Salmon Meunière, Caledonian Braise and Highland Harvest after the serving of the haggis—a traditional Scottish pudding comprised of the heart, liver and lungs of a sheep diced with onions, oatmeal, suet, spices and salt, which has been cooked in a sheep’s stomach.

The poet and lyricist who wrote in both Scotch Gaelic and English such as the compositions A Red, Red Rose, Tam O’ Shanter and Address to a Haggis would have been proud of a night like this that was elevated with Johnny Walker and more.

The bagpipes played loud and proud on this delightful night full of fun and joyful hope for a new year for all.
