Back in Los Angeles, BMI celebrated the 2024 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, honoring Babyface and SZA for their lifetime achievements.
BMI, the renowned music rights organization, annually recognizes the songwriters, composers, and music publishers behind the year’s most-performed songs. This year, the focus was on R&B and Hip-Hop, with guests like Lil Wayne, Ice Spice, Tay Keith, and other industry luminaries.
SZA, radiant in a pink floral dress, was named BMI’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for “Kill Bill.” She also received the recurring “Champion Award,” thanking her collaborators for their contributions to her music.
The legendary Babyface was rightfully awarded the “BMI Icon” for his iconic discography.
Other awards included Producer of the Year going to Tay Keith, with additional recognition for producers like Coleman, Dougie F, Metro Boomin, RIOTUSA, and Jahaan Sweet.
The awards show was a harmonious celebration of R&B and Hip-Hop, showcasing the genre’s continued growth and evolution.
Performances honoring Babyface and SZA included Bren Joy’s electrifying rendition of “Broken Clocks” and MaKenzie’s soulful performance of “Nobody Gets Me.”
