Talk about a night to remember! The Billboard Hip-Hop LIVE concert event on September 6, 2024, was an absolute banger, with rising star Teezo Touchdown stealing the show at Brooklyn’s Xanadu venue. This sold-out show celebrated the future of hip-hop as a who’s who of the next big stars, featuring the likes of BigXthaPlug and BossMan Dlow.

Fresh off his Rookie of the Year win at Billboard’s R&B Hip-Hop Power Players Event the night before, Teezo hit the stage turning heads. In an outfit that would have New York Fashion Week attendees scrambling for their cameras, Teezo showed up and showed out rocking a full monochrome red ensemble. The cherry on top? A microphone adorned with a bouquet of red roses!

Taking a moment to bask in the moment, Teezo shared with the hyped-up crowd, “Last night I was awarded the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Year award. What a year it’s been, right?” He then dropped bombs about his sold-out headlining tour and the upcoming anniversary of his debut album, How Do You Sleep At Night? before treating the fans to hits from his acclaimed debut including crowd-pleasers like “Impossible,” “Too Easy,” and “Out of Respect.” But Teezo had more tricks up his stylish sleeve, surprising everyone with a rendition of “Modern Jam” from Travis Scott’s Utopia album.

Earlier in the evening, Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Artist BigXthaPlug kicked off the night with his Texas-sized swagger. BigX emerged following a cross-country trip from the West Coast in a white soccer jersey but quickly ditched it for his signature shirtless look. The Dallas native performed hits like “The Largest,” “Whip It,” and his breakout anthem “Texas,” showcasing the new wave of southern style taking the hip-hop world by storm.

Following BigXthaPlug, Florida rapper BossMan Dlow turned up the heat with his viral song “Mr Pot Scraper,” and the in-your-face track “Talk My Shit.” His performance of “Get in With Me” drew the loudest ovation of the night, with the crowd finishing every lyric like they’d been studying for this moment their whole lives.

The Hip-Hop LIVE event was part of a week-long celebration of R&B and hip-hop by Billboard. It followed the R&B Hip-Hop Power Players Event on September 5, which honored industry leaders and artists, including Joey Bada$$, Playboi Carti, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Sponsored by Amazon Music, State Farm, and Rémy Martin, the event not only showcased musical talent but also supported local, Black-owned small businesses through the Good Neighbor Marketplace.

As the night came to a close, it was clear that Billboard’s Hip-Hop LIVE had successfully spotlighted the vibrant future of hip-hop, with Teezo Touchdown leading the charge as an artist unafraid to push boundaries and redefine the genre.
