Beaucycled, an art initiative that couples vintage charm with upcycling and sustainability, hosted a Cactus & Crystals Succulent Workshop on Saturday afternoon.
The event was held along the Delaware River at waterfront bar Morgan’s Pier.
To start, each event attendee selected a succulent cactus and a stone to incorporate into their potted design. Stone choices included sardonyx, chrysocolla, apatite, peach aventurine, amazonite, and rose quartz. Representatives from Beaucycled explained the energies and qualities associated with each stone to participants. Participants then chose a glass holder to repurpose for their art projects. Options included old wine glasses, mugs, vases, and bowls.
Gathered around wooden tables with a view of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, event attendees followed instructions from Beaucycled to plant their succulents in the vintage holders. A selection of different colored stones was available on trays at each table for attendees to get creative with their designs.
Food and drinks were available for all event attendees. The normal Morgan’s Pier menu, crafted by Chefs-In-Residents Kevin D’Egidio and Michael Griffiths, was accompanied by special fall offerings like beet and apple salads sourced from local ingredients.
Beaucycled was created in 2012 by Meredith Greimel. The company’s studio is located in Northern Liberties, where they produce succulent arrangements, jewelry and knits. Beaucycled products are sold at festivals around Philadephia throughout the year and online at their Etsy shop.
Beaucycled will be hosting another DIY succulent event on Tuesday, October 24 at Frankford Hall. The “Big Beers & Bigger Planters” workshop costs $20 and will include larger planting containers and a second succulent to incorporate in designs. All supplies are included with purchase of a ticket.
