For her London’s Fashion East AW17 debut, Supriya Lele’s collection explores the duality between her Indian and British cultures and the dialogue between the family body and its relationships.
Concentrating on the interplay between high and low fabrications, Lele reworked traditional Indian textile techniques and embellishment through a refined contemporary lens. To complement the collection, MAC makeup artist, Alex Box created a look that emanates the warmth and strength of Lele’s story. We got the chance to speak to her about the look:
Supriya’s clothes are very intelligent, very paired back. They’ve got a nod toward India, but they equally are very street and there’s just something that’s very calm and intelligent, very quietly cool. The kind of girl that doesn’t need to shout about her inner strength and intelligence, it’s just there. There’s a lot of heat and a lot of jewelry with a strong nod to the heritage, so I really wanted to make something that was really worn in leaving the dark circles. With oils. Pressing these creams into the high of the cheekbones to create a sort of heat coming out of the skin. It’s not conceptual but you can just really feel the heat towards something that is essentially quite glamorous. it’s a very edgy cool look, ramping up the dark circles by leaving the skin perfect around it. Having dark circles suddenly becomes desirable. It looks really sexy and really interesting and adds a sort of strength. It feels quite fresh but also feels very warm and sensual with these elements playing alongside each other.
