NYFW: We spent some time backstage at Academy of Art University show, where several designers revealed collections.
We spoke with John Raymond with Aveda for Academy of Art University’s hair work. The collection si a comprehensive look at the best and brightest heading out from university to pick up real job. Choosing Academy of Art University’s placed runway was not difficult. The theme was constant and the students were treated to a full NYFW experience, down to the craft services and hair products from Aveda.
The Knockturnal: Can you tell us about the hair look for the evening?
John Raymond: The look is all about a natural schoolgirl, schoolboy, the hair is a little dirty but kind of fluffy so it’s not overdone but it’s still done lightly, so each person is kind of their own. We do want that root, very flat so we’re softening to root, I’m softening that root regardless of what they have.
The Knockturnal: What products are you using here?
John Raymond: It’s all Aveda. We’re using the texturizing cream, sometimes we’re using thickening tonics, sometimes grooming cream, So we using this. Every person is tailored for the look . It that challenging.
The Knockturnal: What motivated you to go with this unique per-person look?
John Raymond: So we talked with designers, and the conversation was about elaborate stuff. But this, we liked the clothes – and it took 2-years. We saw a fluidity in the clothes with other styles. There a lawfulness about structure.
The hair was natural and fun with a little shine to give an accent, but was not overpowering by any measure. The products used were a wide mix, but with about 15 minutes to spare, try making your hair look as if you didn’t care at all.
