Season 8 of “Art In The Twenty-First Century” will air on PBS in September.

ART21, a global organization producing digital media about contemporary art, is bringing yet another season of their flagship show to PBS. Season 8 will feature content about 16 contemporary artists from four dynamic U.S cities – Chicago, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Mexico City.

The show, hosted by Claire Danes, provides access to the most innovative and groundbreaking artists of our time. It provides insight on how artists engage in the culture and how art allows its viewers to perceive the world in different ways.

Unlike previous seasons, Season 8 focuses on how particular artists are connected to the cities in which they live. The artists share universal experiences through their life stories and creative works: resistance, pleasure, mortality, and the hope for a better tomorrow. The season showcases the geography, architecture and culture of each location. “Using the sounds, colors, and energy of the city as a landscape that artists respond to and interact with, the films expand beyond the studio to explore each artist’s engagement with their communities and the world around them,” said ART21 Executive Producer Eve Moros Ortega.

Representing Chicago the audience will get to know Nick Cave, Theaster Gates, Barbara Kasten and Chris Ware. Natalia Almada, Minerva Cuevas,  Damián Ortega and Pedro Reyes will take you on the tour of Mexico City. Edgar Arceneaux, Liz Larner, Tala Madani and Diana Thater represent Los Angeles. And lastly, the Vancouver-based artists Stan Douglas, Brian Jungen, Liz Magor and Jeff Wall will show you around their city.

Art In The Twenty-First Century Season 8 will air as four one-hour episodes on two consecutive Fridays, September 16th and September 23rd, from 9PM to 11PM ET on PBS.
