In one of the most competitive industries and Cities, Virgin Islands designer Garcia has shown the big apple why she was the break out star of NYFW. Arega’s “Joy” exhibit showcased dazzling handcrafted glamor and texture, that took the City’s breath away! On September 10th Arega’s Joy installation took place at the intimate Pergola hookah bar on 28th st in lower Manhattan. Resembling her Island, Pergola’s roof and walls were covered in faux vines, flowers, and grass, perfect for the showcase Garcia imagined. The lights were dim and the wooden stairs lead up into the 1st gallery, and a connecting bridge to Gallery 2.
Gallery 1 had four beautiful cocktail dresses! A red Ostrich and goose feathered corset top and silk Shantung skirt called, Back Bone. A Yellow Mikado silk blazer dress, inspired by the Virgin Island bird Bananaquit, made from a real deconstructed Mikado blazer! A remarkable green and white hand beaded Australian Swarovski crystal-adorned Ostrich feather and Silk Gazar called, 420 inspired on 420. And my favorite, the Flying Hibiscus dress. A red and white dress made with red Ostrich and Goose Feathers on a crop top, and a white and red silk Gaza and Ostrich feather skirt.
