The first day of the Africon 2023 conference inspired attendees. The event took place at The Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Speakers shared their experiences on topics important to the international Black community.
Divisional Vice President (DVP) At Rite Aid Pharmacy Omonye Phillips gave a keynote address. She shared her experiences as a Black woman in the beauty industry. She discussed the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. Many panels featured the same topic.
Panelists discussed how to advocate for change using one’s voice. Speakers advocated for more representation in the media and more inclusive workspaces. In the afternoon, Black business leaders discussed how they grew in corporate spaces. They shared advice and experiences for attendees who sought career advancement.
Founder and CEO of The Kudz Effect Kudz E. Taziva gave a keynote speech as well. She discussed the importance of Web3 blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. Attendees networked and learned from the speakers.
Attendee Aisha Johnson said that the speakers “shared their stories and experiences in a way that was both empowering and thought-provoking.”
Attendee Kevin Smith said, “It’s a great opportunity to learn, network, and be inspired by other Black people. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to make a difference in the world.”
