During this visit, he sat down for an interview with The Knockturnal to discuss his career trajectory, his evolving persona, and his preparation for a major upcoming title defense. This conversation took place just days before he was scheduled to step into the ring in Montreal to defend his AEW International Championship against the Bandido. The high-stakes match, featuring a stipulation where everyone is banned from ringside, ended in victory for the champion. Fletcher reflected on his current schedule, balancing the intense physical demands of professional wrestling with promotional appearances and interviews. Despite the chaotic nature of his travels, he maintained a composed outlook, viewing the increased frequency of AEW pay per view events as a welcome opportunity to showcase his talent on the biggest stages. He discussed the necessity of mental fortitude in the digital age, emphasizing that he has learned to disregard negative commentary from strangers online, preferring to focus on his personal values and professional goals. “Knowing who you are as a person and not letting the opinions of strangers on the internet affect how you view yourself,” said Fletcher. Beyond the ring, Fletcher spoke candidly about his identity as a performer. He explained how shaving his head served as a catalyst for a refreshed character and a clean slate, allowing him to experiment with his look and speaking style. He noted that he views himself as a work in progress, constantly evolving alongside the wrestling business rather than remaining stagnant. This growth mindset extends to his backstage interactions, where he maintains a collaborative relationship with Tony Khan, discussing everything from match logistics to camera angles. “I am not a finished product, and I don’t think I ever [want to be a finished product],” said Fletcher. “I want to constantly be evolving with the business.” The champion also shared a lighter side of his life, mentioning his two cats, Gary and Callie, and his growing collection of custom suits, which he jokingly plans to expand throughout his career. As he prepared to head to Montreal, his focus remained singular: to cement his legacy as the greatest international champion of all time by proving his dominance against world class competition.
