Actor Darren Mann sat down with The Knockturnal to discuss training for his role in the new MMA film ‘Embattled’.
Mann plays the character of Jett in the film, who is a high school prodigy who steps into the cage for a battle of retribution against his famous MMA fighter father Cash Boykins, played by Stephen Dorff.
“I don’t know if I worked with Stephen Dorff, I worked a lot with Cash Boykins,” Mann said. “He gives it his all every single take, whether it’s his coverage or my coverage he always gives it. He’s a fantastic villain who makes me as the hero rise to the occasion.”
Mann is a former athlete turned actor and said his background in hockey helped during training for the role.
“It was awesome,” he said of training. “It was one of the greatest experiences of my life getting to work with those guys and getting to learn some new moves while getting to act. Just everything together was the perfect combination. It was always exciting and a lot of fun.”
Mann previously starred in the Netflix hit series ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and coming-of-age teen film ‘Giant Little Ones’.
‘Embattled’ was released by IFC on November 20 in select theaters and is available on streaming platforms.
