This Fourth of July, I was invited to celebrate at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, NYC’s largest indoor/outdoor rooftop experience atop Moxy Times Square. The space had come back on my radar, and this was the perfect occasion to experience its transformation once again.
The night’s soundtrack was curated by none other than James Kennedy, the internationally touring DJ, music producer, and Vanderpump Rules alum, who had the crowd fully locked into the beat.
First Impressions and People Energy
While I’ve been to countless venues across the city, what stood out immediately was the kindness and professionalism of the security staff. As I explained my media credentials at the door, they made space for hospitality, something that’s often forgotten in high-volume nightlife. It reminded me that we’re in the people business and first impressions linger.
The escalator ride to the top revealed just how packed the night was. Security skillfully managed the flow, and once we reached the rooftop, the crowd was diverse and gorgeous women of every shade, celebrating the summer night with radiant energy.
Of course, I had to revisit the iconic Spinning Roses Bench, which I’ve seen before, but it was fun to encounter it again in such a full, blooming space.
Full Bloom: A Rooftop Garden Experience
This summer, Magic Hour is running a limited-time installation called Full Bloom, turning the rooftop into an overgrown garden in the sky. Designed by the team at Geo Events, it’s a visual fantasy and Instagram heaven.
Highlights include:
-
A 12-foot floral bouquet centerpiece, ideal for selfies and photo ops
-
A reimagined floral carousel, fully decked in bold summer blooms
-
Seasonal menu additions like Botanical Spritzes, Lobster Rolls, and Wagyu Pigs in a Blanket
The Full Bloom experience is open through September, making it a perfect stop for weekend rooftop hopping, date nights, or holiday weekend plans.
Looking for FireworksWith a view like Magic Hour’s, I had assumed the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks would light up the skyline from there. But after some quick googling, we realized the fireworks had shifted to the East River this year. Determined to catch them, I asked a nearby hospitality team member if he knew where to go. “Brooklyn,” he said with confidence.
So, we jumped on the F train to York Street, trying to make it in time. By the time we arrived, the crowds were already leaving, but even that had its own charm. People watching, laughter, and warm air under the city lights, it was all part of the story.
Ending the Night with Gratitude
Even without catching the fireworks in real time, the magic was undeniable. And it all started with Magic Hour. I’m thankful for the invite, the ambiance, the music, and the reminder that beauty lives in the unexpected.
Lastly, I take a moment to honor our armed forces and veterans, the ones who make nights like these possible. Freedom, celebration, and rooftop joy are all connected.
