Today at Pier 59 as part of New York Fashion week, Fadel Denibi presented his Fall and Winter 2017 collection.
Denibi was born in Senegal and raised in Barcelona and his line specializes in high quality leather goods, ready-to-wear, and home decor with both Spanish and African influences. Looks on the runway included a camel asymmetric cashmere coat, ivory white wool futuristic kimono and a seafoam blue Wool flower-shaped jacket. Debuting in September 2016, it took Denibi and his team 2 months to complete the current collection.
Last season, he created white leather backpack in the shape of a tribal mask and in this season, Denibi showcased the signature bag in a smaller yellow version. Cracked in the middle, dividing the mask in two parts- the left side represents sadness and the right happiness. “It speaks to feeling sad because that joyful moment in your life is gone,” states Denibi “at the same time, yet happy because you lived it. The fusion between the two feelings together translates into Nostalgia.
Denibi also unveiled his “Utopia” handbag, a simple bag whose name is a translation of the meaning of his last name- “The name “Denibi” symbolizes a utopia for creatives. An island never damaged or influenced by any negative foreign interference,” said the designer. “Where creatives are able to push themselves to the fullest of their artistic abilities in the comfort of like minds and limitless possibility. That concept is what we know today as the future.” Denibi has been preparing for the future of his collection by bringing fine taste and minimalism through each design.
