Check out what went on both backstage and on the runway for Desigual’s Spring/Summer 17 show at New York Fashion Week.
Based out of Barcelona, Desigual never disappoints on delivering a youthful and vibrant collection each season. This season’s collection featured a wide variety of fabrics, textures, accessories, prints and embroidery. Denim and navy have made a huge splash in this season’s collection, along with pops of bright orange and pink.Frills and floral embroidery accented many pieces and the bohemian aesthetic dominated this collection. There were many contrasting silhouettes and hemlines as well. Knit and silk summer dresses wereΒ the standout pieces by far.Β It’s no surprise that the fun and flirty Spanish brand Desigual incorporated snapchat filters into its looks, check out our interviews with the beauty professionals who made the magic happen backstage.

Can you talk about the inspiration?
The inspiration really comes from the Desigual spirit and the idea of the global traveler. There are pretty much two different looks. There are 20 girls that have this sort-of romantic, Victorian curl and then the other 20 girls all have individual looks. The idea comes from embracing the fun and freedom and just the carefree nature of travel, but then we also thought weβve got these girls with long hair and who were the first women that started traveling? Victorian women so when we look at those Victorian women there was a romantic playfulness to it. Weβve got page boys, weβve got little short bobs with bangs, weβve got straight hair, weβve got all sorts of things going on. The other thing that weβve done is weβve created the snapchat filters. Weβve made the flower garland and dancing butterflies.

Can you talk about the different looks?
For the silver and gold nails weβre using two colors from MACβs Star Trek collection.
We use two different types of foil, which I found online that have a holographic feel to them and then for the rainbow nails we actually use some special colors that I have from mixing straight up primaries so we have a processed magenta, a high-def cyan and a primary yellow and for a lighter rainbow we use a color called baby split and then that primary yellow and we use that yellow is from MACβs Itβs a Strike Collection.
What was the inspiration for the nails?
The inspiration for the nails this season was really about social media. I know for the makeup they talked about keeping the girls pretty individual, really bringing their best selves forward and then a few of the girls are getting their inspiration from a snapchat filter so I was like, whatβs really important with nails? And thatβs Instagram so right now what weβre seeing all over Instagram, if you follow any nail accounts is a holographic, rainbow nail, foiling and ombre so I brought three of those concept to Desigual.

Can you talk about the look?
Itβs really about the casting and not the makeup and weβre embracing that 100%, so the models when we get to them itβs not about changing them itβs about improving their beauty and making sure they look like themselves, if they have rosy cheeks then leave the rosy cheeks and in the case of Bruna Iβm using her because she has freckles. Of course social media is such a big thing now a day so weβve taken 5 snapchat filters and weβre being inspired by them, weβre not doing them exactly, but thereβsβ the dog, the deer, the zebra, the bee and the butterflies. Weβve got a lot going on, but the bulk of the makeup is a very natural face. When I say natural I mean there is a lot of priming going on a lot of making skin look its best, not covering it.
