The Knockturnal was invited backstage by Cutler/Redken Salons for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection 2016, presented by Macy’s.
Various celebrities took the runway in support of women‘s heart health. Heart diseases and stroke cause 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.
We caught up with some of the stars backstage. Read our interviews below:
Sofia Richie wore Tabitha Webb.
Q: So tell me how important it is for you to be walking in the show today?
Sofia: It’s very important to me. I want to raise awareness for girls my age because heart disease is preventable and I want girls to know that and I want them to know that if you eat healthy and you workout right that this is all preventable.
Q: How has your fashion week been going so far?
Sofia: Its been going good. I got in this morning at five a.m. so I still think that I’m asleep right now I can’t tell if I’m awake or not. So yeah it’s going to be fun.
Q: Anything you are looking forward to this season?
Sofia: I’m looking forward to Tommy Hilfiger and DVF that will be super cool.
Q: Anything else you’re working on that you want to share?
Sofia: I have a really cool magazine spread coming out soon. It will be really cool. So exciting.
Q: Tell me why it was important for you to be part of this event today?
Alexa PenaVega wore Gustavo Cadile.
Q: Tell me why it was important for you to be part of this event today?
Alexa: I am all about strong women, women coming together for a cause and I think this is kind of a fun and exciting way to bring awareness to something and it’s something that needs to happen. A lot of people think of men as being the people who have to worry about heart conditions, but it’s everybody — it’s women as well. One in three women suffer from a heart condition so the more and more we can bring awareness to young girls and their health, older women and their health, just being aware of what goes into your body how you take care of your body. I’m all about that.
Q: Do you have any favorite fitness things? What’s your favorite thing to do to keep fit?
Alexa : My husband and I love cycling. We ride everyday and we go miles and miles and it’s not too hard on your body. It’s a really fun way to get out and just spend time together, but you’re also getting an incredible workout and it keeps your heart going.
Q: Anything else you want to share?
Alexa: I would say you know everybody always wants to know about diets and stuff. I think you just need to make healthy lifestyle choices, so I’m all about balance. If you want that piece of cake maybe don’t eat the whole piece, maybe eat half of what you would normally eat, but don’t also starve yourself. It’s balance. Life is all about balance, so find that balance.
Madison Beer wore Halston Heritage.
Q: Why it was important for you to support the event today?
Madison: My grandfather has had heart disease and many different heart conditions. His husband actually passed away from a heart condition he had a defibrillator that’s just what kept this heart beating. I just felt really connected to this event because first of all it’s a really good cause and second of all it spreads awareness about something that’s really serious, so yeah I definitely was excited to be part of it.
Q: How has your fashion week been going so far?
Madison: I actually just got here last night, but it’s been really hectic. It’s been great I love it. This is amazing. Everyone looks so pretty I’m in awe watching people.
Q: What about your style? How would you describe it?
Madison I would describe it as a edgy but comfortable I’m always in sneakers you’ll always see me in sneakers edgy, comfy, fun I like to wear darker colors.
Q: What’s next for you?
Madison: have my music coming out shortly and I’m really excited about it.
Skylar Diggins wore Michael Costello.
Q: Why was it important for you to come support this since you’re an athlete as well?
Skylar: I am an athlete. I think it’s important for athletes and everyone alike to support the movement. It’s a great cause. You know it’s all about something bigger than ourselves, so it’s great seeing everybody from every style, walk of life out here represented. Everybody’s beautiful and it’s also a runway show. It just showcases not only every type of woman, every body type of woman, it showcases that we all are beautiful and just coming together is just one beautiful night. Seeing everybody coming together for such a great cause, I’m happy to be a part of it.
Q: What are your favorite workout regimens?
Skylar: I just have a passion. It’s just my lifestyle you know it’s not temporary, health and fitness is a part of my life. Like I said another reason why I’m here is to inspire healthy living and I think it lines up with my brand very organically so I’m happy to be here and I’m looking forward to tonight.
Ta’Rhonda Jones wore Conrad Booker from the Fashion Incubator at Macy’s.
Q: Speak about how excited you are to be supporting this event and walking in the show.
Ta’Rhonda: Not only am I excited, I’m honored that they chose me out of all people because when they say catwalk or runway, we’re used to seeing the little stick figure girls with cute faces and pretty teeth all that good stuff and the fact that they chose me I’m not saying I’m not cute, but you don’t see too many girls like me walking the catwalk especially for a good cause and I’m just super stoked I can’t wait.
Q: What can fans expect from next season? You started filming already.
Ta’Rhonda: We’re still filming we’re actually filming our last episode next week if I’m not mistaken. New additions to the family, you can expect some major backstabbing, we call them get backs, you know when folks get back at somebody else so you can expect some get backs on this show not saying it hasn’t already happened, but the main thing is you are going to see some new additions to the family. So be on the look out for it. March 30th is when it comes out!
Jenny Balding (Cutler/Redken Salons)

Q: So tell me about what you’re doing for her look.
Jenny: So for Gigi’s look, she has this phenomenal dress and she’s got an amazing headpiece as well so we really wanted to create a very sleek foundation. So we wanted to create a very sleek middle part, very low ponytail so when the headpiece goes on, it’s extraordinary, it’s absolutely beautiful. So when she turns around it’s backless and you just see this gorgeous sleek ponytail in the back.
Q: And what are the products you used?
Jenny: For this I used Redken Shine Flash and Redken Triple Take 32 hairspray to really keep it sleek and in place.
