Luna-Luna: The Forgotten Fantasy Makes Opening Debut in New York City

The world’s first amusement park-themed art show makes a stellar debut at The Shed.

Originally brought to life by the Viennese artist, pop singer, cultural pioneer, and peace activist André Heller, Luna Luna first emerged in 1987 in Hamburg, Germany, attracting 300,000 visitors. After a successful debut, a world tour was envisioned. However, the treasures were abandoned in storage containers in Texas for more than 30 years before being hunted down by entrepreneur and CEO Michael Goldberg and then purchased by renowned musician Drake to bring restoration to the beloved amusement park. As a result, a newly formed Luna Luna team spent two years organizing and rebuilding the pieces, readying them for a second attempt at a world tour, and succeeding. The debut year takes place in December 2023 in a studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, and now a second year, in New York City, The Shed in Hudson Valley. “You can be art-obsessed or have never heard of Basquiat, and Luna Luna will put a smile on your face, says Michael Goldberg, Chief Executive Officer of Luna Luna. “It’s one of those rare projects that [have] the power to bring together all walks of life.”

The show features colorful and fun house carnival rides and attractions by the most celebrated and innovative artists of the 20th century, a Ferris wheel by Jean-Michel Basquiat, a carousel by Keith Haring, a wave singer by Kenny Scharf, a wedding chapel by André Heller, an immersive pavilions by David Hockney, Salvador Dalí, and Roy Lichtenstein alongside additional pieces from Arik B. The show will also include new soon to be announced commissions, components, theatrics, and performances to enhance the audience experience.

Luna Luna: The Forgotten Fantasy will open on November 20th, 2024 through January 5th, 2025.
