New design, same delicious flavors

For those that know and love whisky, you will know that Glendronach has been one of the cornerstones of Single Malt whiskies.  And after 200 years of providing some of the finest whiskies, they have unveiled the next chapter in their visual journey.  Taking inspiration from Spain, Glendronach has updated the packaging of its delicious whisky to reflect Spanish flair and pay homage to the sherry casks that their whiskies are matured in.  The relaunch of The Glendronach marks a significant transformation for the brand. The new look features an elegant, timeless aesthetic that underscores the brand’s history and commitment to excellence. The addition of a curated brand pattern depicting the bramble and rooks that surround and protect the distillery speaks to place and pays homage to its namesake; ‘Glendronach’ means ‘Valley of the Brambles’ in Scots Gaelic. While the aesthetic has evolved, the award-winning core portfolio remains unchanged, continuing to mature in rare Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks from Andalucia, Spain.

And to celebrate this next chapter, Glendronach invited a group of guests to get a first look at the new packaging, indulge in a tasting of each of their expressions, and enjoy an incredible performance of Flamenco dancing.  The event was held at Tasca NYC in the Upper West Side in their intimate private dining area under the main dining room.  Before the festivities officially started, guests were welcomed with a delicious cocktail called the Rodrigo Roy (recipe below).  This cocktail was made with The Glendronach 12 year expression and the simplicity of this cocktail helped accentuate a lot of the notes of the 12 year expression.  Each sip delivered rich notes of chocolate paired with fragrant orange and warm baking spices.

As the night progressed, we were introduced to the woman behind the scenes of Glendronach, Dr. Rachel Barrie.  It was here that Dr. Barrie led guests through a tasting of each expression, emphasizing the incredible sherry crescendo in each expression.  Each expression was paired with delicious Spanish dishes which helped showcase how this Scottish whisky is able to seamlessly meld with the flavors of Spain through the medium of the sherry cask.

The Glendronach 12 was paired with a number of Spanish hors d’oeuvres like serrano ham, yuca cakes, and more.  This expression is much lighter compared to the other whiskies in the Glendronach portfolio and paired nicely with some of the lighter bites being served.  In this expression, you can expect lovely autumn fruits paired with chocolate, orange zest, and fragrant baking spices like cinnamon.  We particularly enjoyed this expression not only for how light it was but also recognizing that this expression is perfect for any whisky cocktails that you might want to make.

The Glendronach 15 was next and paired with dishes like a classic empanada, filet mignon pinchos, paella cakes, and more.  A darker whisky in both hue and weight.  This expression is perfect for those that love a bit of heavier sweetness in their whisky.  Having notes of maraschino cherry, mint, and a crescendo of black cherry, this whisky brings an incredible complexity and is perfect both as a standalone drink but would lend itself to a simple cocktail like an old fashioned where these flavors have room to shine.

And saving what we think was the best for last, The Glendronach 18 was paired with the chocolate truffle desserts.  With this whisky’s age, we were not surprised at how delicious and complex these flavors were.  With each sip you get a deep fudge note that coats your palate that is layered with flavors of fruit compote, molasses, and candied orange.  This was one of the biggest standouts and paired beautifully with the decadent chocolate truffle desserts.  We highly recommend getting your hands on this expression and enjoying it either on the rocks or neat.  This whisky is a perfect example of how age plus craftsmanship create art through the form of whisky.\
