We chatted with Peyton and Michael about their love across different realms in Netflix’s new cozy, pumpkin-spice flavored romantic comedy.

Cole, played by Michael Cimino (Love, Victor, Never Have I Ever) is a teenage boy who is unenthusiastic about moving into a new town with his widowed mother. However, he is completely unaware that his new home is more than old-fashioned but includes a package deal with a ghoul friend from the 1920s, Beatrix known as ‘’Bea’’ played by Peyton List (Cobra Kai, School Spirits). Hilarity and confusion ensue as Cole and Bea must figure out how to co-exist peacefully. Cole’s main passion is music and while a talented guitar player, he has stopped playing and thus putting himself out there. Bea is a girl out of time trying to understand this ever-evolving world. Both become fast friends and teach each other a few things about life, love, and time.

The Knockturnal spoke with Peyton List and Michael Cimino about their involvement with the film and how their characters resonated with them personally, bringing out great chemistry on the screen.

On how this film will appeal to audiences and stand out amongst other supernatural-themed romance films. Cimino believes that the characters will resonate with audiences due to their relatability. ‘’So I can’t say in which way it differs, but I can say that I think it’ll resonate with audiences because I think a lot of people have felt the way that Cole has felt and even that Bea has felt even though, yes, she is a ghost.’’ He further explains, ‘’I think any kid that is an artist and wants to be an artist will find something incredible about the movie because of that.’’

Both List and Cimino aren’t new to the supernatural genre, although List does not think of the supernatural label when it comes to her projects involving these themes. ‘’Yeah, I did it before, School Spirits. So it was new for me and I forget that they’re even Supernatural, I don’t even put that label on them in my head when I’m thinking about the projects because it’s not the main focus for me. I feel it is about these humans connecting.’’

Cole and Bea’s relationship in the film is nothing short of heartwarming as they find these two kindred souls who feel lost, make one feel whole, and find enjoyment in life and the afterlife again, For developing the chemistry between Cole and Bea to convey their unique bond. Cimino spoke about how their downtime off-set led them to enjoy one another’s company that helped the chemistry bubble on-screen. ‘’To be honest Peyton and I would just hang outside of work, I’d always force her to either get coffee or vegan food with me. And she always joins and happily eats it with me and we’d just hang out. We’re friends and we’d run our scenes outside of work it was really nice to have Peyton as a friend throughout this process because we’re filming in Jersey and we’re away from our families and it was nice to have someone that we can lean on,’’ Cimino said.

List agreed, ‘’It was such an intimate cast, it was really like me and Michael for a lot of it. So yeah, I think that really helped with the bonding and we were living in the same building and in the same area in New Jersey while filming.’’

This film is not only a fun and touching romantic film, but in season for you to enjoy during a rainy fall day or after visiting a pumpkin patch to unwind. Girl Haunts Boy is available to stream on Netflix beginning October 10th.
