Buenas vibras (Good vibes) were not the only thing DJ VRWVY shared with the crowd on her latest stop of theΒ “Look Where Music Got Us Tour” this past Friday night at The Point in Chicago.
The Knockturnal was on the scene when the DJ also shared that she will be deejaying an official afterparty for SueΓ±os Music Festival also set to occur in Chicago later this month. The Mexican-born and Dallas-based DJ is known for her exciting remixes of Hip-Hop, Latin, R&B and Reggaeton.
Additionally, she has her own production company. The Knockturnal had the opportunity to interview the rising star and find out more about her along with what she is looking forward to this festival season and her exciting partnership with Buchanan’s Whisky. Buchananβs is also proud to support DJ VRWVY on her tour and celebrate Hispanic-American creators paving the way for others in the entertainment industry.
The Knockturnal: How are you preparing for the 2024 music festival season and who is top artist you are looking forward to seeing?
DJ VRYWVY: Always just listening to music, staying updated on new music and artists that may be at festivals. An artist Iβm looking forward to seeing on a festival stage isΒ Rauw Alejandro, Iβve seen him perform on his Saturno tour and the Latin Grammys in Sevilla, but never a festival stage so Iβm excited to see thatΒ π
The Knockturnal: What is it like to put on a multi-stop tour with your own production company?
DJ VRYWVY: To be honestΒ really stressful!Β LOLΒ just becauseΒ itβsΒ so much work we have to do internally since we are doing this independently. But honestly itβs one of the most rewarding feelings, I get to call 100% of the shots and say yes and no to everything so every show is done completely my way and with the vision my team has. Looking back to when I firstΒ startedΒ DJingΒ IΒ didnβt think this would be possible so itβs honestly a dream.
The Knockturnal: How are 200%ers driving the music scene during the 2024 music festivalΒ season?
DJ VRYWVY: I feelΒ likeΒ 200%ersΒ are really driving the music scene during this festival season by pushing their cultures forward. Something Iβm reallyΒ seeing fromΒ artistsΒ is them just being more open in showcasing their culture in performances and really being proud of their heritage and where they come from. And the audienceΒ too,Β theΒ 200%ersΒ areΒ helping push that as well because they seeΒ artistsΒ that look like them and where they comeΒ from,Β it bringsΒ a sense of celebration in yourself.

The Knockturnal: What is the importance of creating spaces for 200%ers to celebrate their cultural duality through the power of music?
DJ VRYWVY: Creating a space forΒ 200%ersΒ to celebrate theirΒ cultural dualityΒ is so important to me, itβs what this tour Iβm doing is emphasizing. βLook Where Music Got Usβ is a testament to theΒ power of music bringing people together celebrating both cultures. I take you through a journey of Hip hop, Reggaeton, R&B, Cumbias and more because that mix of music is what I grew up on. I love whenΒ my playlist is onΒ shuffle and I remind myself of the variety of music I listen to and what makes me, ME.Β Somos de aquΓ y de allΓ‘, and I wanna createΒ a space where we feel seen in both of ourΒ dualities.
The Knockturnal: What is it like to partner with brands such as Buchananβs Whisky and what was it like to remix the music for the βWe Are The Spirit of the 200%β campaign?
DJ VRYWVY: Partnering with BuchananβsΒ WhiskyΒ has been amazingΒ because seriously who wouldβve thought!Β LOLΒ my grandma loves BuchananβsΒ andΒ itβs a drink I know a lot of Mexicans loveΒ so itβs super special because itβsΒ true to my culture and I love how the brand empowers me to get my story out. Remixing the music for the campaign was so fun because I took the meaning of 200%ersΒ literally, I mixed a Hip Hop song with aΒ DembowΒ beat to give it thatΒ flare and sazΓ³n of a 200%erΒ LOL
The Knockturnal: Do you have any tour rituals?
DJ VRYWVY: Usually before a show I like to get a good workout in, breakfast and have some downtime to clear my head before the day gets super hectic. The day flies by so fast so having that moment for myself and my body is super important to me so I can be able to perform at my best and put on a great experience.
The Knockturnal: What is your favorite Buchananβs cocktail to prep for a set on the road?
DJ VRYWVY: My favoriteΒ cocktailΒ at the moment isΒ BuchananβsΒ Pineapple,Β with sparkling soda, pineapple juice and TajΓn on the rim.
