Get into the holiday spirit with a craft Christmas cocktail
Christmas is around the corner and New York City is already in the holiday spirit. And there is no place that celebrates the holiday spirit than Great Jones Distilling Co. Upon hearing that Mariah Carey had begun defrosting, Great Jones Distilling decided to re-launched their iconic ‘Whiskey Wonderland’ pop-up speakeasy to celebrate. Located at 686 Broadway, Whiskey Wonderland embodies the spirit of Christmas in the form of a ski chalet where they have decked out the downstairs space in festive Christmas lights, Christmas trees, and a cozy fireplace. Guests of Whiskey Wonderland can grab a table, take plenty of pictures, and enjoy craft holiday themed whiskey cocktails while enjoying the new winter food menu.
We were able to sample some of the bites and cocktails this past week during an intimate showcase of the space, and we were blown away by how delicious the food and drinks were. One of our favorites was the Gingerbread Delight which features Four Grain Straight Bourbon, cream, egg, gingerbread spices, and was topped off with an adorable gingerbread house. Taking inspiration from classic eggnog, this drink was creamy, packed with gingerbread spices, and boozy from the bourbon. The gingerbread house was probably our favorite part of the drink. The cookie by itself was packed with gingerbread spices, sweet from the vanilla icing, and baked to perfection. It also made perfectly so you can dip some of the cookie into the drink and back in some of the boozy goodness into the cookie.
Another favorite from the menu was the Sleighbell Sour which was Great Jones’ take on a classic Whiskey Sour. The cocktail was made with Great Jones Four Grain, Rosemary, Honey, Lemon, and Egg White. This frothy concoction was delicious and light, and had perfect harmony between the sweet honey, the bright lemon, and the caramel notes from the whiskey.
As for the food menu, Great Jones has thought up of whimsical and delicious holiday treats like the Chocolate Fondue, the Winter Truffle Flatbread, and the Duo Holiday Sliders. We were really loving the truffle flatbread. The dish was incredibly crispy and light and had a heaping portion of decadent truffles on top that elevated the dish to new heights. The holiday slider was also a dish we kept going back for. The buns were fluffy and absorbed so much of the burger juices in it. The burger meat itself was juicy, packed with so much flavor, and practically melted in our mouth.
The Chalet will run through the holiday season into January 2024. And while you are there, you can also check out Great Jones Distilling Co’s latest expression, the Peated Scotch Cask Bourbon. The new bourbon is a limited-edition offering, only available at the distillery located in NoHo and you can find some more information below.
