Multimedia Artist Hisham Akira Bharoocha Debuts Custom Art Installation Cristina Grajales Gallery NYC.
A special release like no other, Diageo combines art, culture, and whiskey at their annual drink launch. Artist Hisham Akira Bharoocha launched a custom art installation alongside Mortlach’s Special Releases cocktails. The event featured an entire showroom of artwork ranging from sculptures to paintings. “Bridging cultures is deeply rooted in my creative process,” says Hisham Akira Bharrocha in his artist statement. “With this piece for Mortlalch, I tried to encompass elements from Japanese culture by weaving my nostalgic impressions of Japan together with elements of Scottish culture that [I am drawn] to.”
Specialty cocktails also were served for guests to enjoy: “The Hara-san,” made with a Caribbean Pineapple Liqueur, and a Mortlach 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, “The Bo Bardi,” a Coffee Liqueur drink made with the Mortlach 16-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, or a Mortlach 20 year-year-old malt scotch on the rocks. Diageo Brand ambassadors in the next room led us through a tasting of all of the Mortlach special releases. Starting with the newest, “Katana’s Edge,” designed by Bharrocha. Each whisky contained 50% alcohol in every tasting, so guests were in for a fun and boozy evening. Each flavor consisted of distinct flavors ranging from rosé to sweet and smoky! After our tasting, we enjoyed sushi servings and gifted mini assorted boxed chocolates.
