Kaitlyn Dorff, born and raised in Calabasas, California, is no stranger to the music biz.

She is the daughter of songwriter and Hall of Fame inductee, Steve Dorff, and the sister of acclaimed actor Stephen Dorff and multi-award-winning songwriter Andrew Dorff. Her new Summer single, “Next To You,” written by Katelyn herself, dropped on Friday, July 24th, 2023 and her two other songs, Still Love Malibu” and “Wish You Could Stay” are featured in the new horror flick, Natty Knocks. Continue reading below to get to know more about Kaitlyn.

It goes without saying you come from a very artistically accomplished family! Explain how you
became interested in creating your own music and when you realized this was the path you
wanted to pursue.
I actually from a very young age I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. There was nothing else really that felt natural to me and music and entertainment was just something I had known for as long as I can remember. I feel super lucky to have such amazing mentors that I know will continue to help guide me through this crazy industry!
“Next To You” is so catchy. What was your inspiration for writing the song?
Thank you so much!!! I wrote this song about my first love. He truly was such an inspiration for me when it came to writing songs. Everything about writing became easy when I wrote my truth and out of that came next to you!
How did your songs “Still Love Malibu” and “Wish You Could Stay” get picked up for Natty
Knocks? What was it like hearing your songs in a movie for the first time?
My 2 songs “Still Love Malibu” and “Wish You Could Stay” funnily enough got put into the film from one of my mom’s Facebook posts about me. The producers reached out after seeing a video my mom had posted and asked if there was any music I could send over, So i did, and it worked out. Hearing my songs in a film for the first time has truly been a highlight for me. Theres nothing like dancing to your own song in a movie theatre.
Do you ever deal with writer’s block when it comes to songwriting? How do you get past
those difficult stages?
I definitely have had writer’s block in my life and although it can be super frustrating I feel it’s very normal and i try not to get too worked up about it. I just allow myself some time away from writing, I try to live life to the fullest and from there I find I get inspired by the most random things and I find myself writing again!
What other projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on finishing up some songs to potentially release as singles in the next few months! I’m super excited for you to hear them as I feel they are some of my best songs yet.
Kaitlyn’s music is available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
