On July 12, Season Two of The Afterparty premiered on Apple TV+.
Chris Miller created and directed the series. Phil Lord and Anthony King produced the show. Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, and Zoe Chao reprise their roles. The comedic murder mystery has a stunning list of new cast members and an eventful storyline.
In the show, Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) attend Grace’s (Poppy Liu) wedding. The groom, Edgar, works as a successful investor and has an interest in lizards, cryptocurrencies, and board games. The next morning, Grace discovers that Edgar has died. Detective Danner (Haddish) questions family members to solve the case.
Each relative has a different version of the story. Suspects include Edgar’s sister (Anna Konkle) and mother (Elizabeth Perkins). Danner considers the involvement of Grace’s parents, Vivian and Ken. The couple is played by Vivian Wu and Ken Jeong. The show utilizes different camera filters as well.
Grace discusses her relationship with Edgar in Jane Austen’s style. In the scenes, characters have stunning dresses. Grace’s ex-boyfriend tells his narrative as though it were a film noir. It involves less color than the aforementioned Austen fashion. Such different mediums define each character. It highlights variations between the characters’ personalities.
