Madison is officially back on Fear The Walking Dead.

But this is not the same Madison from where we last saw her a few seasons ago. It took until this year’s finale of Fear for the popular character to return. As much as I like Madison, this return did not feel like a big deal for me. That is because all season long, we were baited to believe that she would return during this mess of the “war” but that did not happen. Instead, she returned one episode after Alicia’s final episode.

As for the episode itself, I thought it was really solid. I realized now that Morgan and Madison never interacted before. Lennie James and Kim Dickens put on a very believable performance during the finale and I want to see more scenes with these two characters. Now that I said my positives, here are my critiques.

Madison coming back as a child trafficker is not something I had in my bingo card for Fear. This is very out of character for her. What is the story reasoning to have her come back with this plot? over 700 missing children are due to her and the group she is part of. This can rub Fear fans the wrong way with the way her arc is going. Sure, Madison is back. But are we going to suddenly forget the awful storytelling for this season? Additionally, this episode was all over the place.

There were many times when I watched this episode where I had a question for every little answer we got about Madison. I know that will be explored during season 8 of Fear. However, I was not impressed with what we got from Madison outside of her and Morgan’s interactions.

Fear The Walking Dead’s seventh season will be remembered as one of the most disappointing and forgettable season of Fear. What worked on the previous season’s storytelling in the anthology format did not work on this season. There was a ton of wasted potential all season long with little to no character development outside of Dwight and Sherry. I wish I can say that Fear is on a good momentum, but they are not. I do hope that the next season of Fear The Walking Dead has a new vision, storytelling, scripting, and a better directed batch of episodes.
