Jeverson recently released his single, ‘Something In The Water,’ and will be dropping his new EP on March 25th.

The singer, songwriter, and performer has always had a love and passion for music. Growing up, Jeverson was a part of numerous choirs and took classical lessons, which helped solidify his interest in music. The upcoming songs on his EP have a mixture of tones, melodies, and rhythms, allowing listeners an understanding of his artistic abilities. All five songs on the EP combine multiple genres such as soul, pop, and funk which he pairs with Caribbean sounds. Jeverson is from Grenada, which has a heavy influence in the creation of his songs blending his Island roots with Soca and Reggae. His musical style compares to many well-known artists such as Bob Marley, Bruno Mars, Otis Redding, James Brown, Prince, etc.

Jeverson spoke with our correspondent Rebecca Eugene about his upcoming EP and the inspiration for the songs. He also talked about his favorite songs on the EP and his future career goals.

Jeverson’s music can be followed on his Instagram @Jeversonofficial

The Knockturnal: At what age did you start showing an interest in music? How did you learn to sing and write?

Jeverson: I’ve been singing as long as I know myself. I’ve been in every choir in every school I’ve attended. l sang at church and took classical lessons along the way. I would write a little in the past but I never considered myself a songwriter . I really pursued it in 2020 when I met Nashville producer/publisher Russ Zavitson. He taught more about songwriting when I started working on my first project.

The Knockturnal: How long did it take you to create the songs on your EP? Which song(s) are you most excited for fans to listen to?

Jeverson: It took me about a year and a half to compile this project. I absolutely love something in the water and count on me! I love them all but those two are my favorites.

The Knockturnal: All five songs  on your EP have a mixture of different sounds, rhythms and tones. Can you describe your songwriting process?  How do you find inspiration?

Jeverson: I love projects with different sounds! It adds good color to the music! I go straight for a melody to start the process most times, then fill in the words. Sometimes I hear some words in my head and I try to figure out how l can make it into a song.

The Knockturnal: The song “Pray for Your Son” has a strong sense of emotion and delivers an important message. But, your collaboration with the ‘Presentation Brothers Choir’ added a powerful element to the song. What made you want to collaborate with the PBC Choir and how did this decision come about?

Jeverson: I felt the song was missing something and we thought a choir would help bring it to life; so we got the PBC choir. I went to school there and sang in the choir there so it made sense.

The Knockturnal: How would you describe your style of music? What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Jeverson: I would describe the music as soul/funk with a little splash of Caribbean vibes. I just love the way music makes me feel! Like I could do anything and get away from all the clutter that’s in my mind sometimes.

The Knockturnal: While working on this EP who were you listening to and getting inspiration from?

Jeverson: I listened to all kinds of music; from Otis Redding, James Brown, Prince to H.E.R and Bruno Mars, Lucky Daye and so many other artists.

The Knockturnal: Looking forward, what do you hope to do next in your music career?

Jeverson: I’m looking forward to touring and performing in different cities as well as recording my debut album!

The Knockturnal: If you could collaborate with any artist(s) in the industry who would it be?

Jeverson: Bruno Mars/silk sonic, Leon Bridges, H.E.R, Musiqcity Walls from the walls Group!
