Exclusive: Henry Golding, Úrsula Corberó, Andrew Koji and Haruka Abe Talk ‘Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’ [Video]

Action films are a tough business. So many start great, then crash to earth under the weight of leaden acting, an aimless plot or a corny ending.

So it’s with great joy that I report ‘Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’ obliterates damn near every action thriller I’ve seen in a very long time. Not only does it feature some of the most well-choreographed and epic fights on film, but the filmmakers also take time to actually develop the characters, telling the story of warring factions, familial power struggles, and double-agent intrigue with patience and aplomb.

Henry Golding is sensational as the titular character (Snake Eyes). He’s an endless well of charm, but behind those eyes lay a storm of conflicted motivations, a need for revenge and family.

Úrusula Corberó shines as The Baroness, a woman committed to the destruction of the world’s power structures, at any cost, by any means. She’s ruthless and witty to a fault, so unflappable that she’s tough to root against.

Andrew Koji continues his hot streak, bringing a level of commitment and soul rarely seen in any movie, let alone a beat-em-up action vehicle. He plays Storm Shadow, heir to the Arashikage clan throne. He’s a man obsessed with honor and family who’s as loyal as the day is long, at all times willing to give his life for those he loves.

Haruka Abe is an absolute firebrand as Akiko, head of security for the Arashikage. She has the most badass fight scenes in the film and brings a curiosity and emotional depth to a character forced to be tough as nails.
