Exclusive: Dylan Hafer Talks Betches & Podcasts “Pop Alarm” & “Mention It All”!

We got a chance to talk with Dylan Hafer, the Content Manager for Betches and the host of the Betches podcasts “Pop Alarm” and “Mention It All”!

Dylan Hafer has been with Betches -a female-founded new media entertainment company serving Millennial women- since 2019 starting off with an editorial role. Since then, he has become the Content Manager for the company, overseeing the pop culture content.  Additionally, he hosts the podcasts “Pop Alarm”: a daily podcast where Dylan will recap the day’s need-to-know pop culture news in five minutes or less, and “Mention It All”: a deep dive into Bravo shows where he has spoken to notable Bravolebrities including Lisa Vanderpump, Jackie Goldschneider, Margaret Josephs and more.

We got a chance to speak with Dylan about his role at Betches, pride month, and his two podcasts, check it out below!

The Knockturnal: Can you tell us about your role at Betches?

Dylan Hafer: I’ve had quite the journey with Betches since I started writing freelance back in 2014. Since joining the team full-time in 2019, my role has shifted from more of an editorial focus to a broader scope overseeing our pop culture content across platforms. In addition to the new Pop Alarm Podcast, I manage our Bravo content vertical, as well as assisting with editorial and branded content where necessary. Our audience is always growing and shifting, so it’s exciting to stay on top of exactly what people want to engage with.

The Knockturnal: What does Betches have in store for this year’s pride month?

Dylan Hafer: We have a special Shop Betches Pride collection—personally I’m obsessed with the rainbow emoji hat. A portion of each purchase from the collection is donated to the ACLU LGBTQ Rights Project, which supports the legal fight for equal rights. Our Betches Sup platform also has a lot of amazing Pride content and resources which I’m constantly learning from and sharing with friends.

The Knockturnal: Can you talk about your new podcast “Pop Alarm”?

Dylan Hafer: I feel like everyone loves knowing about what’s going on in pop culture, but it’s hard to know where to get your news. We’re constantly getting breaking news notifications and seeing random news on Instagram and Twitter, but no one really has time to stop and digest that information. Pop Alarm solves that problem by giving you only the most interesting stories, five days a week, in five minutes or less.

Earlier this year, our co-founders returned to host our flagship @Betches Podcast to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. That made so much sense, but with the show shifting away from a pop-culture focus, it left a gap in the entertainment content that our audience has always loved. Pop Alarm was the perfect solution to bring back that element, and I’m so happy I get to bring this to our audience.

The Knockturnal: How does “Pop Alarm” differ from other pop culture podcasts?

Dylan Hafer: Betches has seen great success with Sami Sage’s 5-minute news podcast Morning Announcements that we launched in January, so we knew a pop culture version would be the perfect companion. I love long-form podcasts, but sometimes you just need the details, and that’s exactly what you get with these quick episodes.

The Knockturnal: You also host Betches’ “Mention It All” podcast. How has it been hosting it?

Dylan Hafer: Mention It All is the best! When we launched our Bravo By Betches Instagram account in 2019, we always knew a Bravo podcast would be part of the bigger picture, and when it became clear that we’d be working from home for an extended period of time, we just decided to do it. My co-host Bari Rosenfeld and I have been recording three episodes a week for over a year now, and shockingly, there is always so much to talk about. What can I say, there’s no rest for a Bravo lover.

The Knockturnal: You’ve interviewed several Bravolebrities on the “Mention It All” podcast. Which Bravolebrity interview was your favorite?

Dylan Hafer: There have been so many! It’s hard to top having Luann de Lesseps on our debut episode (she’s since returned for a second appearance), but my favorite is probably Margaret Josephs, from The Real Housewives of New Jersey. She was hilarious and unfiltered, but also so kind and friendly. Not to mention, she stayed on the Zoom call talking shit for 45 minutes after we finished recording—that doesn’t happen very often.

The Knockturnal: What’s coming next for you and Betches?

Dylan Hafer: We have big goals for the rest of the year and beyond, and I’m personally excited to have Pop Alarm out there in the world, as it’s been a total labor of love. Now that things are opening up, I know we’re all excited about getting back to in-person events, and I can’t wait for BravoCon to return this October. Lots of big things are coming down the pipeline for Betches in 2021.
