Condola ‘Dola’ Rashad demonstrates her multi-faceted talents as visuals from her debut EP ‘SPACE DAUGHTER’ start to roll out.

You may be familiar with the rising star through her extensive work on Broadway making her a 4x Tony Award nominee or through her acting role on Showtime’s Billions or quite possibly as the real life daughter of everyone’s favorite TV mom, Phylicia Rashad who is well known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show. However, Dola, as she prefers to be called in relation to her musical career has been making boss moves separate from her iconic familial ties.

After originally being unsure of what SPACE DAUGHTER could mean, the singer was struck with inspiration and a vision. “I saw what ‘SPACE DAUGHTER’ actually was which is, this is my ode to the divine feminine, my playful story about the divine feminine,” states Dola. The visually stunning videos, like a painting in movement showcases Dola’s intention to live life authentically and at times unconventionally. She self-funded, produced, wrote and co-directed every song and music video in this project.  “I decided to do it independently because I knew that a record label wasn’t going to allow me to do what it is that I have done, this way, coming out the gate,” Dola explains. As personal and rewarding as this project is to her, it has taken on a whole other meaning as she decided to align herself with various charity organizations in an effort to give back to her community.

Each organization that she has chosen, including Food Bank for New York City, Hearts of Gold, and VH1 Save the Music holds a special connection to her as well as a genuine acknowledgment to the issues of the time. The debut single, ‘Blue’ was always set to release in April 2020 but as Covid 19 hit, concerns grew about the timing. “How can I offer this but also find a way to help society as well? So I’m offering it artistically but also finding a way that it supports the moment we’re in as well and that’s what felt right to do,” Dola shares. As a resident of New York City, a community that was hit extremely hard with this tragedy, Dola automatically thought of Food Bank for New York City in support of those families of low income and those suffering from homelessness that would be impacted the greatest. Proceeds from her singles, ‘Give Up the Gold’ and ‘Running in Place’ will also benefit her chosen charities.

Visual from ‘Blue’ – SPACE DAUGHTER

This is only the beginning of Dola’s musical journey and the go getter singer is looking forward to the world’s interpretations of her delicately crafted sound and visuals. To hear more about the process of creating SPACE DAUGHTER, check out our exclusive interview above.
