Exclusive: Netflix’s ‘The Order’ Star Louriza Tronco

Check out our exclusive interview with Louriza Tronco from Netflix’s “The Order”!

Netflix’s The Order has returned for their second season last week as we continue to follow the story of Jack and the rest of his friends uncovering the dark secrets of The Order, a magical society within the campus that they all attend. The first season ended with everyone forgetting their memories due to The Order stealing their memories and they vow to get them back in season two. One of the central characters of The Order is Gabrielle and she has a much bigger story for this season.  The actress that plays Gabrielle is Louriza Tronco breaks down everything about her for season two of The Order.

The Knockturnal: Gabrielle has really evolved from the first season to the second season. I like the progression of her character that I have seen. How involved were you when it came to shaping up and developing the character for this season?

Louriza Tronco: You know, it’s mostly props to the writers because they’re the ones who created an amazing arc for Gabrielle in season one. And it just amplified in season two. Just like every episode, after every episode, I just kept asking myself  “do I really get to do this?” And I can’t believe that they’re letting me do all this stuff. So it’s really props to all the writers for such a multi-dimensional character for myself.

The Knockturnal: While you were going through the scripts for this season, were there any lines that caught your attention that you could not wait to say on screen?

Louriza Tronco: One of my favorite lines is “I’m basically like the fifth knight” when I see Alyssa (Sarah Grey) at the party and she’s like “What are you doing here” and I’m like “I’m basically like the fifth knight.” I think it just showcases that Gabrielle is trying to find a family and insert herself into this group of people.

The Knockturnal: Speaking of karaoke, that was going to be my next question. How much fun did you and Sarah have when both of you did that scene at the party?

Louriza Tronco: We had a lot of fun. We both sing, but we’ve never sung together before. So that was really, really fun for us to do. And the actual day of filming though, it was interesting because we were singing live. So we sang live and we had something in our ears that made us the only ones who can hear the music. The rest of the cast and like a hundred background actors only heard us in acapella. So we were trying so hard and we’ve kind of like put ourselves in a different place to not feel so awkward about the fact that we were the only ones who can hear this music and just us serenading this group of strangers. But it ended up turning out very well.

The Knockturnal: Gabrielle had Jack dye his hair and that was a surprise to me when I was a few minutes into the season two premiere. Do you prefer Jack with his blonde hair or dark brown hair?

Louriza Tronco: Well, Gabrielle will always prefer him as a blonde. I mean, for less of a clash for her, it’s less of a clash for her since she has her dark hair and he has blonde. For me specifically, I like him in both. I think he rocks both. And that’s why I guess we had both in the show!

The Knockturnal: I Wish I can grow blonde hair, but my hair is dark.

Louriza Tronco: Yeah, my hair is dark too. So every time I want to dye it or something, it always has to go blonde first. But it takes forever. I’m sitting in the chair for hours just to go to bleach it. So I feel you on that.

The Knockturnal: I also wanted to ask you, how have you been holding up since this pandemic started?

Louriza Tronco: You know, it’s definitely an adjustment. Obviously, there’s a lot going on in the world right now with the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. 2020 I think is a difficult year. Obviously, in various different levels. But I think for the long run, it’s going to be something positive hopefully. But in terms of like daily life, I try to keep myself in check with my mental health by writing out a list of things to do and even just like a few things that I check off of my list. I actually kind of feel pretty good about myself. Just to feel like some sort of accomplishment when a lot of the days we don’t have a schedule. But that’s just coming from me for someone who is a workaholic. And for someone who loves to be busy all the time. I was actually in New York right when Broadway shut down which was the same night I flew in for my friend’s premiere. And I was there for like maybe 24 or 48 hours before I had to come back to Canada in quarantine. But I love New York and I am hoping things will turnaround soon.

The Knockturnal: Katherine Isabelle is Vera Stone, The Grand Magus and she has a high authority on The Order. What was it like to work with Katherine?

Louriza Tronco: Katie’s amazing. She is a queen and she is iconic. So like every single scene that she’s in, she always challenges me as an actor and she’s a gift. She has been in the industry for so long and Katie is an icon in the horror realm for a long time. So to be in her presence is absolutely a gift.

The Knockturnal: Speaking of horror, last year when I interviewed you, I asked you if you liked horror movies and you told me that it was not your cup of tea. Since you are on The Order which has some horror elements, have you watched or tried to watch any horror movies or television shows since last year?

Louriza Tronco: I remember that! I’m slowly starting to open myself up to horror series right now. Like “Haunting of Hill House”. I didn’t know at the time what that would be about. And that’s all I would think. So my friends are the ones who kind of give me like an alert to be like, ‘OK, this is an episode where you’ll probably scream and somebody will jump out’ sort of thing. But I have some great friends that are trying to open me up to the horror scene a bit more.  So I kind of hold my hand through it because like I said last year, it terrifies me. I get nightmares from it. But obviously, it’s a loved genre for many, many reasons.

The Knockturnal: Were there any kind of fantasy books or videos that involved magic and sorcery that you looked at before you got your role?

Louriza Tronco: No, not really. I mean, I think that the last sort of like fantasy novel I read was “Six of Crows“. And it’s sort of like they really had some like you think they had some sort of magic. And it’s been a while since I’ve read it, but it was like sort of a heist fantasy thing going on. And just like their chemistry with each other. I felt like it was sort of the wall in terms of working together to get something done. But in terms of to prepare for the role, I used the script as my base.

The Knockturnal: Your and Jake’s characters had to be together in the public eye but could not stand each other once the two of you were alone. How did you and Jake balance that dynamic when you two were filming?

Louriza Tronco: I thought it was great. And it was really funny that we were obviously in a relationship. And the fact that Gabrielle tried to use Jack to her advantage was so Gabrielle. It’s for her own doing and for her own little passion project to make the best out of a worst-case scenario for her. Because, as we all know, Gabrielle hates Jack’s guts. But I think the cheerleading scene really did it for me. The fact that she got to make Jack audition for the cheerleading squad was really, really fun to film.
