Felix, the intimate art exhibit experience that prioritizes connoisseurship, collaboration, and community has made its way to Los Angeles.
The Felix fair was co-founded by Dean Valentine and brothers Al Morán and Mills Morán with the mission to provide galleries with an adequate exhibition that provides collectors intimate access and maximum flexibility. Making its return to the hotel fair format, Felix LA took place in Hollywood’s historic Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in the heart of the city. This informal setting allowed for conversation amongst collectors, dealers, and artists and an opportunity to lounge by the pool and take in the beautiful rays. Each artist occupied a room in the hotel and was given complete creative control with what they wanted to do with it including changes to light fixtures, bathrooms being completely taken over with art, wall repainted or obscurely decorated and closets that became works of art.

The inaugural edition of the fair in 2019 welcomed a diverse creative audience with over 12,000 guests experiencing galleries from Europe, North America, China, South Africa, and Australia. Felix LA’s 2020 special projects are organized by William J. Simmons and will highlight themes of gender, queerness, and feminism, featuring presentations by Jill Soloway and Judy Chicago, Anne Collier, Hayden Dunham, Eve Fowler, Carolee Schneemann, David Benjamin Sherry, and Betty Tompkins, among others.
Familiar with Jean-Michel Basquiat? Now you can get your own Basquiat painting for a mere $1000! Ok not really, however, artist Eric Doeringer has made a miniature bootleg version of Basquiat’s untitled painting of a head from 1982 and it is selling at the Felix art fair. The original painting that soared to popularity sold for a whopping $110 million to a Japanese collector, Yusaku Maezawa. Doeringer has, in fact, made a whole series of “bootlegs” from Los Angeles mega collector Eli Broad’s collection, called ‘The Brode.’ You can find these works of art at the booth of the eccentric, “A Hug from the Art World.”

On February 13, artist Dynasty Handbag kicked off opening night with her usual strange and provocative performance, Weirdo Night featuring acts by Smiling Beth, Marawa, and Cricket Arrison. Guests gasped and chuckled at the insanely funny performance and afterward, DJ Total Freedom serenaded the guests with sounds until closing. The 2020 edition of Felix will continue until February 16.
