On The Scene: The Chainsaw Artist Art Gallery Exhibition

It was an Eastwood family affair this past weekend in Hollywood for Stacy Poitras’ Art Gallery Exhibition. The renowned artist and son-in-law of Clint Eastwood held his first art show for his upcoming documentary The Chainsaw Artist. The gallery featured the same sculptures his documentary is based on and all were made with an uncommon sculpting technique, a chainsaw. Though his art form and technique might seem unconventional, it garners a lot of appeal and is something he has been doing for the past 30 years.

Each of the detailed sculptures displayed at the gallery represented each of the seven deadly sins (envy, lust, greed, gluttony, sloth, pride, and wrath). “Some of the sculptures cause people to be very upset and I kinda want that,” said Poitras. “The inspiration was to get people to think and to get people to feel. That’s why I did this.” For Poitras the documentary is almost like a protest where he uses the seven deadly sins as a way to showcase how far we’ve distanced ourselves from human connection and dignity.

“The way the world is with every one constantly looking into their iPhones, people I think have started to loose their common decency and their worths have come from how many likes they get. So I just wanted people to kind of go back to basics you know that’s what these sculptures are about” said Poitras at the event.

The exhibition was set to benefit the Eastwood Ranch Foundation for Animal Welfare and Rescue. A foundation founded by Poitras’ wife Alison Eastwood who of course was present to show her support. Others in attendance included family member Scott Eastwood, Sam Elliott and wife Katharine Ross, Luke Guldan, and more. The Chainsaw Artist documentary is currently wrapping production and is set to release in 2020.
