On December 13, friends, family, and fans gathered at Rough Trade NYC for the Doe Paoro show.
First off, if you have never been to this venue you must come and visit it when you can. As soon as you walk in, you’ll notice it is a unique record store that is made up of shipping containers and is also a bookstore as well. You can look for some great music, come upon a good book, and grab a bite to eat all at the same place. It is a must see!
Doe Paoro is a 34-year-old New York native who is based in Los Angeles, California. She is currently touring to support her Soft Power album, which released on October 19, 2018. She came on at 9 p.m. with her one of a kind sound and you can tell she was happy to be back in New York as the crowd cheered her on. Her album is inspired by 60’s and 70’s instrumentals. Doe’s new album delivers an alternative R&B and pop sound. If you enjoy artists such as Amy Winehouse you will enjoy listening to Soft Power. She began with her single “Over” which features her stunning vocals and the sounds of a piano giving a sentimental vibe to a great song. Some other songs off her album include “Guilty” and “Cage of Habits”.
As the show went on, I was impressed by her unique sound. Each one of her band members made their own introduction to the crowd which they do at every show according to Doe. They each said something they liked about the venue. Drummer Sheldon Reed loved the ping pong table on the second floor. She also brought on stage with her a family member who played the saxophone. The crowd enjoyed the show. Overall, it was a great performance. Make sure to check her album Soft Power, which is out now!
