Highlights From The ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Press Conference

“Infinity War” was the latest film from the MCU that left many utterly heartbroken and stunned with the twist ending and many of the beloved superheroes dying.

Nevertheless, fans can’t wait for the next installment. However, in between Infinity War and the next Avengers film, there are two new movies that will be added; Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ant-Man and the Wasp is the sequel to the original story of Scott Lang. The plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp starts off a few years after the events in Captain America: Civil War occurred. The audience discovers that Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd is on house arrest and had to renounce his duties as Ant-Man.

Some of the terms that come with his agreement is the inability to contact Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). Thus, Scott Lang has very little contact with anyone but his daughter, Cassie. One day Lang has a message sent by Hope’s, thought to be dead, mother about her whereabouts into his brain. Scott and Hope team up once again in order to find her missing mother who has been stuck in a quantum realm. Meanwhile, a new female villain named “Ghost” (Hannah John-Kamen) also searches for a way into the realm.

During the press conference that took place on Sunday June 24th at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, Lily was able to accurately explain the science behind the movie through quantum physics. Alongside the cast; Paul Rudd, Hannah John-Kamen, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Douglas, director Peyton Reed and producer Kevin Feige, Lilly was the only cast member willing to explain to the crowd the actual science of the film, with almost as much knowledge as her character Hope has. “I really love quantum physics and always did before this happened, and that’s one of the reasons I was excited about this brand,” said Lilly. “Because I really dig quantum physics.” Spoken like a women in STEM, Lilly made many women proud beyond her knowledge in science. Through Ant-Man and the Wasp, Lilly became the first female to play a title superhero in a Marvel movie.

As for Fishburne, people couldn’t help but notice that his launch into the MCU seemed over postponed. “I’ve been a reader since I was eight. I’ve been a fan my whole life. Really enjoyed the movies and what they’ve done with the MCU”, said Fishburne about his character. As for Paul Rudd, he was actually involved as a writer on the film. Rudd gave some insight as to his role as a writer and said, “I try and think of the film as a whole and I think of every character”. Reed also commented on the role Rudd had taken on,“He’s as generous a writer as he is an actor.”

As for Marvel fans who are still shocked by the ending of Infinity War, Feige revealed that the events and new knowledge about the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp have an effect on any “future Marvel films.” So fans, make sure you listen and try to understand the science behind it as it might be the way we see the revival of many characters that we lost. “There are things that you see back that Peyton has put in there,” said Feige. “Where and how they’ll pay off in the near term and the long term remains to be seen.” It should also be noted, as per pure Marvel fashion that there are two post-credits scenes, the first one is especially important as it segues into the next Avengers film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is in theaters July 6!!
