The Shape of Water, Three Billboards and Big Little Lies win big

After the Golden Globes kicked off award season in style last weekend, the Critics’ Choice Awards continue the award season and bring even more fun to one of the closest awards seasons in recent history. Hosted by Olivia Munn, the Critics’ Choice Awards honored the best in film and TV in 2017, as selected by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association.

Olivia Munn managed to keep Hollywood on its toes, targeting some of the usual suspects as Seth Meyers did at the Globes while also shooting some jabs at Mark Wahlberg for recent news about his pay for All the Money in the World. Other great moments included the seven year old Brooklynn Prince winning an award for Best Young Actor/Actress for The Florida Project, delivering a “happy tears” speech that killed the crowd.

Other fun moments included speeches by Guillermo del Toro, whose film The Shape of Water picked up four awards including Best Director and Best Picture. The Shape of Water was the big winner of the night with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri picking up three awards of its own. This opens up the race for the big trophy of the Best Picture Oscar even more, with two viable contenders already lining up.
