Recently, the Odd Future emcee has shared two tracks from his upcoming album Genesis.
I can confidently say both “Dapper” and “Go (Gas)” have left me pleasantly surprised and hyped for the rest of the record. I’ve been a fan of Domo Genesis for a minute, and listening to the various styles he’s tried on from project to project, I was curious to see what flow pattern; what sonic theme he would choose for a LP. If these two tracks are an accurate glimpse of the record, then Domo’s brilliant answer to my curiosity is an opposition to pigeonholing his flow into a single soundscape.
Looking back at the variety in Domo’s discography, it’s hard to pick out a weak style. He’s excelled with his chameleon like approach to emceeing. Just listening to “Dapper” and “Go(Gas)”, you would think they’re two different rappers. His inflection, flow, and lyricism are totally different, and I’m coming to the realization that this is what makes Domo Genesis an exceptional artist. His versatility is a powerful selling point, and having a wide spectrum crew like Odd Future backing him up is sure to give him a handful of influences to pull from. I’m excited to see how many flows he intends to call in on Genesis, and how they come together as a singular project.
