Upon their arrival into the packed out event, Williams and Robinson were welcomed with a thunderous round of applause from guests. After an introduction by Lucinda Martinez, HBO’s SVP of Multicultural and International Marketing, the women gave a few words on the work they put into creating the special before giving guests a look at the series’ first episode, “New York.”
Featuring a guest appearance from former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, “New York” had the room filled with laughter as Williams and Robinson hit on a wide range of topics with Stewart–from being a “DILF” to figuring out what borough had the best pizza. Other guest comedians featured in the special include Michelle Buteau, Jordan Carlos and Mark Normand.
Following the screening, guests were treated to the sounds of DJ Ms. Nix, a customizable blanket station led by designers The Griggs Brothas and specialty cocktails from the bar.
Based off their 2 Dope Queens podcast on WNYC, Williams and Robinson taped all of the four one-hour long episodes in front of a live audience at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.
Along with “New York” the other three themed episodes in the special series include “Hair” with Sarah Jessica Parker, “Hot Peen” with Tituss Burgess, and “Black Nerds” with Uzo Aruba
2 Dope Queens premieres on HBO on Friday, February 2 at 11:30 p.m. ET. Check out the trailer below.
