On Thursday, March 5th, NBC held a luncheon with actor Jocko Sims at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood.
The event was held to promote New Amsterdam on NBC as well as touch on any other projects Jocko had been working in. As well as being an actor, Jocko enjoys writing and producing as much as he can. At the moment, he is working on writing a comedy movie. Jocko spoke a lot on his character Dr. Floyd Reynolds of New Amsterdam. In a way New Amsterdam seems to be full circle for Jocko, who grew up fascinated by science and health. Originally Jocko wanted to grow up to become a doctor, although that changed, playing Reynolds fulfills his love for acting as well as incorporates his first passion.
Sims is incredibly proud to portray such a beloved character who is unapologetically who he is. Reynolds is the head of Cardiovascular Surgery at New Amsterdam Medical Center who was promoted after Max Goodwin, the Medical Director, released all of the department heads. As season two progresses, much of Dr. Reynolds’ fate is up in the air. With his fiancée taking a job in San Francisco, New Amsterdam being based in New York, Jocko’s character seems to be making the move to the West Coast.
When asked whether this meant he would be leaving the show or if there would be a spinoff series he responded with “NBC does love their spinoffs but, there’s not much I could say. There could be a spinoff or the show could go back and forth although the show is very New York so that would be tough. There’s many possibilities.”
