On July 20, WE TV’s “Growing Up Hip Hop” celebrated celebrated their Season 3 Premiere at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).
There was a panel discussion surrounding the evolution of hip-hop. It was moderated by Dwandalyn Reece, Curator of Music and Performing Arts (NMAAHC) and Timothy Anne Burnside, Curatorial Museum Specialist (NMAAHC).
Some legendary artists including Percy “Master P” Miller, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, and Damon Dash were part of the panel. As well as, stars of the show and executive producers Romeo Miller and Angela Simmons.

In addition, other cast members also took part including Vanessa Simmons, Damon “Boogie” Dash, Kristinia DeBarge, Briana Latrise and Egypt Criss.

The discussion centered around the background and contributions of the legends that were on the panel and how they handled raising their children in the spotlight.
When speaking on his longevity in the industry, Master P said: “if everyone does things for the love of it, instead of purely chasing money, that’s where you find passion and success.”
The discussion was rounded out by Romeo Miller, who said “the series is about the cast’s evolution from being the progeny of hip hop royalty to building a new legacy of their own.”
