‘Treasure Trackers’ Review

Directors Nate and Drew Garcia are able to weave a tale of treasure hunting that may not reinvent the wheel for the genre but certainly seems fun to watch.

The story centers around three misfit middle schoolers who meet up in after-school detention and come across a book that is believed to help anyone find a mysterious, missing treasure. However, the middle school kids are hunted down by a quasi-goth group of high schoolers who have some evil intent with the treasure.

The Garcia brothers are able to capture the essence and purity of my childhood into one single feature-length movie because as I was watching it, I felt a flurry of nostalgia roll over my body and it almost felt like I was watching a Disney Channel Original Movie from the 2000s.

I don’t ask for much from a film but watching this film transported me back to my formative years and I am very grateful for that.

However, that’s not to say that those Disney Channel Movies didn’t have issues like this movie. It’s kind of weird to hear high schoolers say, “Silence!” and give commands like they’re Death Eaters from the Harry Potter Universe, but that’s somewhat small given the nostalgia-rush that I got from this film.

All in all, I loved this film and it brought me back to a simpler time in my life that I miss very much.
