The 20th edition of the Internet’s most renowned awards taps some of the best apps, websites and most online present celebrities.
The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) announced the Nominees for the 20th Annual Webby Awards – on this year’s list we’ll find sites like Google Cardboard, Polyvore, Two Dots, and The Intercept as well as some of the year’s most talked about celebrities like Beyoncé, The Weeknd, One Direction, John Oliver, First Lady Michelle Obama, Tracy Morgan and Carmelo Anthony.
The list goes on with currently hottest names in the Internet space: Spotify, Kendrick Lamar, Carpool Karaoke, Tyler Oakley, AwesomenessTV, The Making of Hhamilton, VRSE, GIPHY, VICE, The List App, Reply All, Tinder and Rihanna.
Founded in 1996 The Webby Awards have recognized likes of Napster or HOTorNOT as well as spotted some of the future hottest websites including The Onion, Internet Movie Database (IMDb) and Amazon.com. Since the inception The Webby Awards have been the source of most noteworthy online destinations and personalities.
Every year IADAS’ nominations reflect the creativity and emerging technologies that are shaping the world we live in today. Academy’s members including Jimmy Kimmel, Instagram’s Eva Chen, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Questlove, and Internet inventor Vint Cerf will choose the winners that are going to be announced on Tuesday, April 26.
The public has a chance to cast their votes for their pick of the best of the Internet at http://pv.webbyawards.com. Voting for the Webby People’s Voice Awards is open from now until Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11:59 PM (PT).
Winners will be celebrated at a special ceremony held at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, May 16, 2016. This year’s show will be available on demand at webbyawards.com the morning of Tuesday, May 17 and The Webby Awards video channel will feature all the show highlights, including special performances and all the hallmark 5-Word Speeches from the night’s big Winners.
