“Stark Trek: Section 31” is an action-packed film for new and legend Trekkies to enjoy!
Academy-Award winning actress Michelle Yeoh, who portrays the character Phillipa Georgiou, stole the show as the protagonist, and rightfully so. Her character is feisty, determined, sassy, and an absolute boss lady. And don’t even get me started on the fashion, because she is slaying on screen as an intergalactic empress. Section 31 brought the edge and unpredictability to the Star Trek franchise. I loved the cliff-hangers, the captivating plot and the chemistry between the cast members. Also, the story itself was very shocking at times, and I was a fan of the surprises along the way.
Actor James Hiroyuki Liao, who plays the character of San, who is Phillipa’s love interest, got my attention with his acting chops, which are full of authenticity and are multi-dimensional. He is definitely a rising star to keep an eye on. My favorite aspect of the movie were the small peaks at the main characters as teens and then as adults. The cinematic transitions added depth and empathy to the script. Speaking of the script, I was also a huge fan of the use of comedic relief and quirky jokes throughout even some of the tougher moments in the plot. Regardless, if you’re new or a diehard fan of the franchise, Section 31 will have something for you to praise!
