The beloved Museum of Broadway debuted their summer exhibit this week: Moulin Rouge! The Musical: Spectacular, Spectacular. We got to sneak an advance preview and celebrate the launch with some of the current and original Broadway cast.
The Museum of Broadway has hosted four total exhibits featuring broadway favorites: SIX: The Royal Gallery, ALL THAT JAZZ: The Legacy of Chicago The Musical, The American Theatre As Seen by Hirschfeld, and now Moulin Rouge. These exhibits contain real costumes from the show, inside looks into the making of the show, never-before-seen rehearsal clips, and interviews with the cast and crew.
The current exhibit recreates one of the sets: Satine’s dressing room, complete with a beautiful Parisian window-scape and a velvet chaise to pose on. The Museum of Broadway offers guests a magical opportunity to “step into the world of twentieth-century Paris” and be “immersed in the glamor and romance” of the show. We loved participating in the “love wall” where other museum goers have written what love means to them – it’s so heartwarming to read everyone’s messages.
The museum offers so much more than just these special rotating exhibits, though. From a life-sized depiction of the creation of a show from start to finish, a look at the technical sound and lighting board, and the chance to step through the wings onstage to see what your favorite performers see during a broadway show, the museum has so many exciting displays. We can’t wait to go back and see the full museum – only a portion of it was open during the launch event. The beauty of this museum is that the exploration never ends: each season brings a new exclusive look into your favorite productions.
The Museum of Broadway has partnered with Chase Freedom to bring Moulin Rouge to life for guests, and the exhibit runs through September 8th 2024. Buy your tickets here to catch this gorgeous special display, and stay tuned for the next exhibit launching in the fall!
