The Lonely Island Takes a Stab at Pop Stars in New Film

The Lonely Island reveals their new movie poster and red band trailer for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

The film, set to be released on June 3, follows pop star Conner4Real’s after his second album flops. When everyone realizes that the mega star may not be so hot anymore, he has to deal with the life he has come to know as a star collapsing.

The trailer gives an introduction to the many unusual characters in the film from Conner’s DJ and lyricist to his mother and nemesis. You can catch the trailer below or on The Lonely Island’s Youtube Channel.

Appropriately, the new poster features Conner4Real, played by Andy Samberg, in an all white outfit complete with a mesh tank top. The style is reminiscent of every male pop and R&B star of the last two decades. With their affinity to parody it’s no surprise that the tag line “Never Stop Never Stopping” and the plethora of tattoo on Conner’s chest and arms is an allusion to Justin Bieber.  And if the obnoxious chains and shades were not enough, the whole poster is practically dripping in gold glitter.

The Lonely Island, comprised of Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are accompanied by producers Judd Apatow and Rodney Rothman for Popstar. The film also stars Sarah Silverman, Imogen Poots, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader and Tim Meadows. The trailer and IMDB page for the film also states that man celebrities will be making appearances in the film as themselves including Pink, Snoop Dog, Carrie Underwood, Joanna Newsom and Adam Levine.
