Urban Fitness 911, a Los Angeles non-profit organization was created to address the disparity of academic skills, health and fitness among teenagers and young adults in low income communities, collaborated with artists deadmau5, SOFI, the voice and writer behind deadmau5 singles “Sofi Needs A Ladder” and “One Trick Pony”, and Tommy Lee from Motley Crüe on January 15th, 2016 at the King Drew Magnet Golden Eagle School in Compton, CA.
deadmau5, Tommy Lee and Sofi spoke with Urban Fitness 911 students about the importance of perseverance and not losing sight on their dreams. Additionally, they discussed their success within the music industry and how they were able to overcome difficult times in their lives in order to create profitable businesses and personal success. Famed entertainment attorney, Dina LaPolt and artist and performer Sofi, joined the panel by sharing real life stories about the ups and downs of the music industry.
The eager students asked various questions, some serious, some funny, “My first passion was computer programming, which eventually led me to create music.” deadmau5 added. “I believe being drug free contributed to a lot of my success.”
One student asked Tommy Lee how many times he’s fallen down and gotten back up? “Too many times to count, I just keep the faith and keep moving forward,” Tommy Lee explained.
With Urban Fitness 911, Joel, Tommy, Dina and Sofi were able to vocalize one of their goals which is in alignment with the organization’s ultimate success – aiming to change the lives of Los Angeles youth.
